Kulttuurisia kohtaamisia (‘Cultural encounters’, only published in Finnish) is a book that was published in 2010 contains articles from researchers Raisa Simola and Jouko Jokisalo as well as comics by seven artists. The book was published with antiracist intent and is still a good read after ten years.
The ways of narrating on racism and cultural encounters have changed in the last ten years due to both societal changes and an increased sensitivity to issues of representation. One of the artists, Johanna Rojola, who is also a member of the Comics and Migration project, will soon write more about this subject.
Nevertheless, these comics have stood time well. They have now been translated into English and published on our website, you can read them by clicking on the name of the artist: Sanna Hukkanen, Lissu Lehtimaja, Ville Pirinen, Aapo Rapi, Johanna Rojola, Anna Sailamaa and Tiitu Takalo.
